Alert from Registry Partners Security Officer- PC users should uninstall Apple QuickTime

KatieMears

The Registry Partners Security Officer recommends that all Windows users to uninstall Apple QuickTime, if you have not done so already. The Department of Homeland Security has posted an advisement for PC users to remove this software due to vulnerabilities and the fact Apple is no longer issuing support for the PC platform of the software (Mac users still get updates). The Homeland Security bulletin is here: https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA16-105A

To uninstall QuickTime:

  • Open your Control Panel
  • Select “Uninstall a Program” or “Programs and Features” (depending if you have the Control Panel sorted by Categories or by Icons)
  • Sort the list of programs by Name
  • Search for QuickTime, and highlight the software
  • Select the Uninstall button near the top of the program list once QuickTime is highlighted
  • Follow the on-screen directions

It may seem like a small, insignificant task, but making sure the software installed on your computer is updated prevents viruses and technical issues down the road.  When dealing with PHI, you don’t want to take that risk.  For more security tips from our Security Officer and other helpful articles on keeping PHI safe, follow the Registry Partners blog!
