Our newest video for the May 2022 edition of Sepsis Chatter is titled: “Sepsis Chatter- Initial Lactate Collection & Results and Repeat Lactate Collection”. This presentation begins with an overview of the rationale for collecting lactate levels in patients with sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock. Next we will focus on our three topics of interest individually: Initial Lactate Collection, Lactate Results, and Repeat Lactate Collection. Each Topic will include the definition of the CMS Data Element as written in the current Specifications Manual and the corresponding Data Collection Question. Finally, for each data element, we will review the CMS abstraction guidelines and discuss examples of how to apply the relevant concepts. This presentation is based on the information included in the most current version of the Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures (Discharges January 1 through June 30 2022 (2Q22)).

*For the most accurate guidance, please refer to the version of the Specifications Manual that corresponds to the Discharge Date(s) that are being reviewed.
