The Alabama Cancer Registrars association had a special memorial for Donna Burgett and Curtis Brown along with a special tribute to their 1st President Barbara Yarber.

Registry Partners raffled a $100 Visa Gift Card at the conference and the lucky winner was Sonya Rhodes! Congratulations to Sonya Rhodes!

Michigan:

The MI Cancer Registrar’s 44th Annual Conference was held in beautiful Ann Arbor MI October 10th and 11th. The two days were filled with a variety of speakers. Patrick Nicolin, the Assistant Director of the Metropolitan Detroit Cancer Surveillance presented on the new Solid Tumor rules focusing on Lung and Breast along with several SSDIs updates. The second half of his presentation demonstrated navigating the SEER website and the resources available to aid in abstracting.

Ruth Lutes and Stacey Meredith from MI Medicine presented on Lean Thinking for the Cancer Registry. They demonstrated workflows and efficiencies implemented within their own registry which led to the success of their registry providing timely collection of their data with sufficient staffing.

Physician and other professional speakers presented on Breast Cancer and Staging, Radiation, Melanoma, Genetic and Molecular Testing, Lymphoma and Leukemia.

One of the highlights was, of course, Darla, a Great Dane therapy dog accompanied by her owner Sue Zieske who presented on Pet Therapy. Darla brings many smiles to the MI Medicine patients she visits weekly. The stories are heartwarming and she gained many more smiles from the audience!

Also congratulations to Ginger Greenwood for winning our $100 Visa Gift Card!
