Recap of the ARCRA/TODAA Regional Education Conference
September 27 – 29, 2017
The Arkansas/Tennessee Regional Education Conference was held September 27 – 29, 2017 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Downtown Memphis, TN … it was an excellent meeting!
The first day of the conference was devoted to the upcoming changes in the AJCC 8th Edition Cancer Staging Manual and provided a great opportunity for attendees to earn Category A CE Credits for NCRA.
Karen Scott, MEd, RHIA, CCS-P, FAHIMA was on the 
slate of speakers for the second day of the conference. Her presentation centered around “ICD 10 for Cancer” and the importance of accurate data collection.
She expressed throughout her presentation that data matters and the accuracy is extremely important. One example she shared with the audience was how data helped bring to light an issue with radiation therapy delivered through a chest portal at a Children’s hospital the side effects it was causing in young children. As a result of gathering and analyzing this data, they were able to improve this method of treatment.
