Recap – The Children’s Hospitals Neonatal Consortium

10th Annual Symposium

Registry Partners enjoyed attending the 10th Annual Children’s Hospitals Neonatal Consortium (CHNC) Annual Symposium, October 22-24, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.

The meeting focused on tertiary and quaternary neonatal intensive care, including quality improvement and research using data from the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Database (CHND) over the 3-day conference at the beautiful Nationwide Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The conference began with a keynote presentation by Dr. Shoo Lee focusing on the “Canadian Neonatal Network” and “Parents as Bedside Caregivers in the NICU”. Throughout the conference, clinical topics included:

  • standardized postoperative pain algorithms
  • discharge readiness
  • Telemedicine
  • end of life care

Data topics focused on efficiency and accuracy and using data to advance care for surgical birth defects. There were also several sessions sharing the work of the CHNC focus groups related to: Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), and Mortality.

Each day ended with the very popular reception and poster presentation, a great time for friends and colleagues to enjoy each other’s company and knowledge.  The conference concluded with a break out session for the data coordinators and a final address by Dr. Jackie Evans on “CHNC – State of the Consortium, Database, and Future Directions”.

Along the way, Registry Partners was happy to meet and talk with some of our current CHND partners and share some swag. The lucky winner of our “Register to Win” activity was Amy Distler from St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Amy and her team will be receiving catered lunch upon her return to the office. Thank you to all the conference attendees and organizers for such a rewarding and successful conference! We look forward to next year’s conference at the Emory Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia, from November 4th – 6th, 2019.
