Recap – Society of Thoracic Surgeons 55th Annual Conference

This year the STS 55th Annual Conference was held in San Diego, CA from January 27th – 29th, 2019 and Registry Partners was just one of over 100 exhibitors in attendance.

The conference was centered around cardiothoracic surgery education and hands-on sessions, lectures, and interactive learning. Many exhibitors had their top products and services used in the cardiothoracic surgery field. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, even printed a 20 page bulletin for each day of the conference referencing the lectures that would take be taking place including a map of the exhibitors booths.

Registry Partners was honored to be a part of this conference and enjoyed meeting both attendees and exhibitors alike.

Two lecturers included keynote speakers Laurie H. Gilmcher, MD, the President and CEO of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA and Eric Topol, MD, the Director and Founder of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in La Jolla, CA.

Dr. Gilmcher’s lecture was “Cancer Immunotherapy: The end of the Beginning” where she discussed the history of cancer therapy, as well as cancer genomic, immunotherapy, epigenetics, and approaches to combination therapy. Dr. Gilmcher, spoke to future cancer treatments and preventions, and covered topics such as how artificial intelligence can be used in helping detect minimal residual disease and relapses.

Dr. Topol’s lecture was “High-Performance Medicine: The Convergence of Artificial Intelligence and Health Care” and he focused on how Artificial Intelligence has impacted healthcare, including areas such as liability, obstacles and future possibilities. Dr. Topol is a Cardiologist and geneticist specializing in the use of AI and smart technology.

Registry Partners raffled off a smart suitcase and the lucky winner was Sarah McNeil!  Congratulations to Sarah!
