Recap – Mercy Health – St. Rita’s

Neuroscience and Trauma Symposium

Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center – Lima, OH

August 3 – 4, 2018

Registry Partners enjoyed attending the St. Rita’s Neuroscience and Trauma Symposium. There were twenty presentations over the two-day conference including three keynote speakers and several other interesting topics presented some of which include:

  • Trauma Forensics
  • Spine Trauma
  • Expanding the Time Window for Acute Stroke Thrombectomy to 24 Hours
  • An Interventional Approach to Stroke Management
  • Concussions
  • Distracted Driving
  • Brain Tumor – Current Diagnosis and Treatment Algorithm

For a full list of the presentation topics click here.

One of the keynote speakers, Kevin Menes, MD, spoke about mass casualties and his experience working as an Emergency doctor after the Las Vegas shooting back in October of 2017.  Dr. Menes actually wrote an article that was published in the Emergency Physicians Monthly newsletter titled “How One Las Vegas ED Saved Hundreds of Lives After the Worst Mass Shooting in U.S. History”. What an incredible story … Dr. Menes’ leadership and critical thinking greatly impacted the lives of many.

Dr. Jeffrey Barrows, DO, MA, founder of Gracehaven, was another keynote speaker and presented “Human Trafficking and the Healthcare Provider”.

We also heard from keynote speaker Ian Burkhart, a spinal cord injury patient & survivor who spoke about “A Patient’s Journey through Trauma, Rehab and Recovery” as well as Dr. John Corrigan, PhD, from The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center who spoke about “The Public Health Burden of TBI”.

Registry Partners raffled a $50 Visa Gift Card at the conference and the lucky winner was Kathy Link. Congratulations to Kathy!
