The NAACCR 2017 Annual Conference (North American Association of Central Cancer Registries) was held June 16-23 in Albuquerque NM. This is where the standard setters, researchers and central cancer registries of the United States gather annually to share data and participate in educational programs. It is also when each state’s central cancer registry receives its certification for complete, accurate, and timely data to calculate standard incidence statistics for the year reviewed.

The NAACCR professional organization develops and promotes uniform data standards for cancer registration; provides education and training; certifies population-based registries; aggregates and publishes data from central cancer registries; and promotes the use of cancer surveillance data and systems for cancer control and epidemiologic research, public health programs, and patient care to reduce the burden of cancer in North America.

Vendors and participants enjoy hearing the most current research findings as well as developmental tools for gathering data. Mingling with colleagues, old friends and meeting new friends across the nation as well as international colleagues is always a great time!

Mary Sarvis and Kay Dosch from the South Dakota Central Registry enjoyed the NAACCR Certification Awards Ceremony.
