Are you considering hiring a CTR for your cancer program? Do you know how to evaluate the quality of their work, their understanding of basic registry principles or their ability to use all of the required reference materials? Using the Registry Partners internal skills exam is a useful tool to make an informed decision for hiring a candidate. No one wants to work through the hiring process, orientation, and acclimation period with a new employee to soon learn they are not qualified for the position.
The skills exam is broken down into 3 parts: Case finding, Abstracting and Accredited Cancer Program Standards. The abstracting portion includes 3 case scenarios based on the breast, colon and prostate. There are a total of 120 questions: multiple choice and true/false. A list of required reference manuals is provided and the candidate is allowed to use them during the exam. The website link, a unique username and password is communicated to the client once a scheduled time has been confirmed. Te average length of time to complete the assessment is 2-3 hours though a candidate can use as much time as they would like. The results of the skills exam are shared with the client and a review of the results with the client and candidate are available.
