This presentation begins with a general overview of ICD-10 CM codes. This is followed by an introduction to the new Sepsis specific aftercare ICD-10 CM code Z51. A Encounter for Sepsis Aftercare. Further discussion will include:

  • Defining the ICD-10 CM Code Z51.A
  • Describing the rationale behind creating a new ICD-10 CM Code specific to sepsis aftercare
  • Identifying patient care settings where this new code will facilitate communication
  • Providing rationale for sepsis specific patient discharge education
  • Stating the benefit of this new code in relation to future research
