Welcome to the August 2022 Edition of Sepsis Chatter!
Our newest video presentation is titled: Sepsis Chatter – Broad Spectrum or Other Antibiotic Administration: Abstracting The Correct Date And Time. This presentation begins with a review of the current CMS abstraction guidance related to Broad Spectrum and Other Antibiotic Administration.
The discussion will focus on the following situations:
- One antibiotic administered within the specified time frame
- Multiple antibiotics administered within the specified time frame
- Antibiotic administration prior to Arrival
- Excluding a case because the antibiotic was administered greater than 24 hours prior to the onset of severe sepsis
Each of these covered topics will include specific abstraction guidance that is defined in the current CMS Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures. We will review the application of these guidelines by using examples and providing rationale.
