“Trailblazing the Future”
March 7th – 9th, 2018 – Orlando, Florida
Submitted by Jo Boxall, RN, Validation Manager for Registry Partners – On behalf of Registry Partners, Leoma Berroteran, RN, BSN, Registry Services Director and I had the pleasure of attending the 2018 NCDR Annual Conference, in Orlando, Florida, March 7th through 9th. Director of Business Development, Tony Summerlin, and Business Development Associate, Sheila Veuleman, RN, BSN, CPE, COS-C, manned a very busy vendor booth, providing a wealth of information about our company and services to conference attendees … and of course, the best chocolate!
We also raffled off an Amazon Echo at our vendor booth and the lucky winner was Connie Abene, RN, CV Coordinator from OSF Healthcare. Leoma and Sheila presented Connie with her prize! Congratulations Connie!
All of the NCDR Registries were well represented at the conference with many informative and interesting sessions to attend. The NCDR Cath PCI registry is rolling out Version 5 changes beginning with April 1st discharges, so we decided to focus on the sessions dedicated to the upcoming changes.
The Cath PCI Registry will have an increase from 262 data fields with the current Version 4.4, to 345 fields with the new Version 5, so there were many new topics to review. Of particular interest, we learned that Element #4561 (CHSA Clinical Frailty Scale) will have to be coded 90% of the time, but it can be coded from documentation obtained withinthe medical record. To aid in coding this important data element, the NCDR distributed colored infographics to conference participants. A copy can also be downloaded from the NCDR Cath PCI website, under the Version 5 documents list.
The sessions during the conference made for some very busy but very educational days! In the evening we had time to take a little break and headed to the magical place called – Disney World! Being an annual passholder and knowing the parks well, I was able to take Leoma and Sheila on a couple of rides, to see the fireworks at EPCOT (which happened to be hosting its annual Flower and Garden Festival). Here we are in front of the Topiaries at the entrance of EPCOT.
We thoroughly enjoyed our attendance at the NCDR Annual conference. It provided many opportunities to network and get to know others working in the various NCDR registries and it was great to spend time with other members of the Registry Partners team.
