Registry Partners was delighted to attend the 11th Annual Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium (CHNC) Annual Symposium. The meeting took place over the course of 3 days (November 4-6, 2019) at the gorgeous Emory Conference Center Hotel in beautiful Atlanta, Georgia. The symposium focused on tertiary and quaternary neonatal intensive care, including quality improvement using research and data analysis from data in the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Database (CHND).

The conference “kicked off” on Sunday night with a casual get together where Registry Partners’ colleagues and friends had the opportunity to have some dinner and mingle. On Monday morning, the conference began with Pre-Symposium activities, such as: a tour of Atlanta Children’s Hospital, the CHNC Fun Run/Walk by Fore Hadley, and the Data Coordinator Meet & Greet. After lunch, the general symposium started with the Welcome and Opening Remarks as well as a presentation by Dr. John Kinsella on “Pathophysiology of Acute Pulmonary Hypertension in Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernias”. Throughout the conference, clinical topics included: neonatal anesthesia, cerebral function monitoring, NAVA ventilation, and factors affecting post-operative glucose in neonates. Data topics focused on data collection and analysis techniques as well as PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) cycles. There were several sessions sharing the work of the CHNC focus groups related to: Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), mortality, and Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). Each day concluded with a reception and poster presentations, the perfect time to learn more about current research as well as enjoy each other’s company. On the final day, the symposium finished with data coordinator breakout sessions and a final address by Dr. Jackie Evans on the “State of the Consortium”.

Registry Partners was honored to meet and speak with some of our current CHND partners as well as many other conference participants. The lucky winner of our “Register to Win” activity was Jo Crosby from Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Jo will be receiving a travel suitcase from Registry Partners. Thank you to the conference attendees and organizers for such a successful and rewarding symposium! We look forward to attending next year’s conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, from October 21st-23rd, 2020.
