Corry

Marketing Manager

Congratulations to Cathy Hall and Lesley Bement on passing their CTR exam! Theresa Real from Registry Partners provided mentoring to Cathy and Lesley over the past several months. Theresa stated, “It was my pleasure to work with both Cathy and Lesley. They both worked extremely hard to achieve their goal of becoming a CTR. I am proud of Cathy and Lesley and I know that they will accomplish great things for Tidelands Health.”

Thoughts from Cathy:

What did you think was the most difficult on the test?

The hardest part of the test for me were the questions regarding the Central Cancer Registry because I am more familiar with a Hospital based registry.

What do you recommend to other registrars taking the test?

For registrars preparing for the test I suggest studying everything you can about the Central Registries and their procedures, as well as the COC Standards. It is a very long test with only a ten-minute break between the open and closed book sections so be well rested and hydrated because you can’t take anything in the testing area with you.

Who was the first person you told that you passed?

The first person I told that I had passed the exam was my husband then my coworkers and boss.

Who influenced you to join the profession?

My biggest influence for joining this profession was the desire to understand cancer and in some way help with the research needed to cure it because I have many family members who have been diagnosed and succumbed to the disease.

What are your hobbies when not being a CTR?

When I am not being a CTR I enjoy spending time with my family and just being outside in nature whether it’s relaxing on the porch watching the birds, landscaping or going to the beach.

Lesley Bement shared the following answers:

What do you recommend to other registrars taking the test?

Taking the NAACCR prep classes, the NCRA Study Guide, and the purple CRM book were a big help to me!

Who was the first person you told that you passed?

My boss! 🙂

Who influenced you to join the profession?

I actually found out about this career field in my very first HIM class in college, it was in a blurb at the bottom of one the chapters of my books about specialty registries.  It sounded very interesting to me so I looked into it through the NCRA website, and the rest is history!

What are your hobbies when not being a CTR!!

I love to read, surf the internet, go to the beach, go back home to Upstate NY.
